Finding The Silver Lining

I always try to be optimistic and positive in almost every situation. I’m constantly trying to find the good or the lesson to be learned in situations that we face on a daily basis. I believe that everything happens for a reason, sometimes we know right away, other times it make take us months or even years to realize what that reason was.

Being the mother of a teenager, it’s not easy to see eye to eye. He’s changing everyday and some days are better than others. Today was a rough day for both of us, thankfully no one lost too much control. We had a very good conversation about what it’s like to be a teenager, and the things he’s going through.

It was a great opportunity for us to talk and see where each of us stood and try to understand the other’s point of view. I consider our silver lining for today. We don’t always understand each other but there’s always room to try.

Getting Back on Track

Now that the lazy days of summer has come to a close, it’s time to get back on track…eating right, getting regular exercise are all part of the plan. I’m looking at this as a fresh start, I’ll be doing alot this month, including working on getting my business off the ground (I’ll share more of that later), that alone is a process in itself.

The last few months have been really hard for me, I’ve been in a really low and depressive mode. I finally feel like I’m coming out of it and I’m excited about what’s to come. I’ll mainly be focusing on wealth building over the next little while, as well as looking for a new home for me and my son.

Overall, I’m just really excited about this next phase of life!

A Special Thank You To My Mother

The first time I celebrated Mother’s Day as a mother, I didn’t really get the opportunity to celebrate as most moms did. I was a fairly new mother and I really wasn’t focused on myself.

Fast forward 13 years, the best part of Mother’s Day is still not about me but about my mother. Although getting a homemade card from the little guy is a very close second!

I am so blessed to have her, the older I get, the more my appreciation for her grows. Being a mother of one and knowing the sacrifices I have to make, I can’t imagine the sacrifices she had to make with my three sisters and I. She inspires me to be a better mother and a better person. I know it wasn’t easy for her but she did the best she could with what she had. I thank her for EVERYTHING that she has done to give my sisters and I a better life.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

It’s Mother’s Day :)!

I have been so blessed to be surrounded by some of the most amazing women that I can call |Mother”. As I go through life and face the challenges I do, I can always count on them to be that voice of reason, that listening ear, the encouraging element that keeps me going even when I feel like giving up.

I’m blessed to have so many mothering relationships in my life, these women are my Aunts, Sisters, Cousins, Co-workers and girlfriends. There’s a special place in my heart for each and every one of them. Through them I’ve learned first hand that you don’t have to physically give birth to be a mother, they go above and beyond, whether they have children or not.

I thank them for being who they are in my life and for taking the time out to mentor me, teach me, guide me and love me.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Purpose Driven Life, Day 23

Day 23: How We Grow – Day 23 talks about the important of spiritual growth, it’s not something that is automatic, it needs to be intentional. The book says “ You must want to grow, decide to grow, make an effort to grow and persist in growing”. Making the decision to be like Christ is not all there is to your spiritual growth, like everything else that you want to be good at, you need to practice.

Spiritual growth is a collaborative effort between each individual and the Holy Spirit, it works with us, not just in us.

In order to change our lives we must change the way we think, every behaviour is motivated by a belief and every action is prompted by an attitude. There’s an old saying “ Watch your thoughts for your thoughts become actions…”, I firmly believe that!

We need to start thinking of others more, be more willing to lend a helping hand…stop being selfish, selfish thinking is the source of sinful behaviour. Thinking like Christ is the heart of what your growth is all about.

The chapter ends off with this little nugget: “Christianity is not a religion or a philosophy, but a relationship and a lifestyle.”

Question for today is: What is one area where I need to stop thinking my way and start thinking God’s way?

One of the ways that I need to start thinking God’s way is my parenting, I often find myself struggling with how to raise my son. I need to start asking God how I should raise him. I always pray and ask God to cover him and to make him a good child, I ask the he makes me a good parent. I feel like I really need to start asking God what steps I need to take, ask for spiritual guidance to be a better mother.
