Finding The Silver Lining

I always try to be optimistic and positive in almost every situation. I’m constantly trying to find the good or the lesson to be learned in situations that we face on a daily basis. I believe that everything happens for a reason, sometimes we know right away, other times it make take us months or even years to realize what that reason was.

Being the mother of a teenager, it’s not easy to see eye to eye. He’s changing everyday and some days are better than others. Today was a rough day for both of us, thankfully no one lost too much control. We had a very good conversation about what it’s like to be a teenager, and the things he’s going through.

It was a great opportunity for us to talk and see where each of us stood and try to understand the other’s point of view. I consider our silver lining for today. We don’t always understand each other but there’s always room to try.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

I love holidays…I love getting together with family and loved ones to create memories and have a good time. There is so much to be thankful for this year, I’m blessed and highly favoured indeed. I’m healthy, my son is healthy and even though he can be a handful at times, he’s keeps me going and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m blessed to be surrounded by great friends and family who know and value life as much as I do.

I hope you are with your loved ones this Thanksgiving, I hope that there is no sorrow in your heart and that you are able to focus on all the good that has happened to you. Be thankful everyday, not just today!

Vacation…

I haven’t been able to post for a while…truth is…I snuck away for a little vacation! I really felt it was time for a little break. Things were getting a little overwhelming and I really wanted to get away before my schedule got busy again with the start of the new school year.

I went to Jamaica, the picture above is of one of the beaches I went to, Frenchman’s Cove, it was one of the best beaches I’ve been to. I highly recommend checking it out if you ever get the chance to go to Jamaica. You can literally see the fishes swimming in the river that they have on the other side. The water is amazing!

I’ll be getting back into the swing of things and publishing more frequently again…there are some exciting things in the pipeline for me and I’m really excited. Stay tuned…

The Fab Five

The first time I heard this phrase a few years ago I didn’t really pay it much attention. Now, as I’ve gotten older and wiser, this statement has guided me in so many ways. It’s allowed me to evaluate myself and the people I surround myself with.

I don’t look at it as cutting certain people out of my life, but more of knowing what I want out of life and connecting with the people I can learn from the most, the people who will help me to get where I need to go. In this life I’ve learned that people will help you grow or hold you back, ultimately, it’s up to me to decide who stays and who goes.

I’ve been blessed to have a few people in my life who have made a tremendous impact either way. I’ve also been blessed to have a “Fab Five” that I can turn to and help me grow. They’re there when I need spiritual guidance or just a prayer, financial advice, health and fitness advice when I feel like giving up and encouragement to follow my dreams when things seem hopeless.

I’m blessed beyond measure to have these incredible people in my life, I’m grateful for their unwavering support that keeps me going.

Do you have a “Fab Five”? What do they mean to you?

For My Nephew

I love birthdays…my birthday, birthdays of friends and family members…I just love them. I’m the type who will go all out to celebrate someone on their birthday.  I love celebrating them and I love looking back down memory lane to see how far they’ve come.

Today my nephew Lamar celebrates his 15th birthday…Wow, seems like just yesterday I was changing his diapers, giving him a bathe and being up with him all hours of the night because he was sick. My nephew is kind of like my first-born, he was born a little over a year before my son was born. Recently my sis had another baby and I often tease him that he’s no longer my favourite nephew lol. We used to have a running joke where I would tell him that he’s my favourite nephew, his reply would always be “I’m your only nephew…you don’t have a choice!” Well, times have changed and there’s new competition on the block lol…

For anyone that has nieces and nephews, you know there’s that special place in your heart for them, you just want to shower them with so much love.

So, to Lamar…you have an amazing spirit, as you celebrate another year of life, I pray that you are blessed beyond measure. I pray that God grants you wisdom, humility, and so much more. There are no words to describe my love for you and how much you mean to our family. Here’s to many more birthdays that we will celebrate. Happy Birthday…I love you!
