Green Smoothies

As promised, I’ll be posting some of my Green Smoothie recipes as I go along. For today, I did a really quick and simple one because I was already running late for work.

I used:

1 cup of Spinach
7 pieces of frozen strawberries
100g Greek Yogurt
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed

I added a few cubes of ice and I was good to go…I had half for breakfast and the other half as a snack.

Green Smoothie Week – Mango Spinach Smoothie

Today’s smoothie is officially my new fave, it was so rich and filling and besides, everything is better with mango!

Ingredients:
Handful of spinach
1 mango cut into small pieces (frozen mango will work just the same)
1/2 apple
1 tablespoon ground flaxseed

Thoughts…

Yummy, this one is definitely going to be one of my go to recipes from now on. It was filling and didn’t leave a weird after taste that you sometimes get with green smoothies. Two thumbs up!

Green Smoothie Week – Spinach Pomegranate

Today’s smoothie was pretty simple, and only contained four ingredients. It’s always interesting for me to see just how far a few ingredients can go.

Ingredients:
1 handful of spinach
6-8 pieces of pineapple
Seeds from half of a pomegranate
2 tablespoons of flaxseed

Thoughts…

The ingredient that stood out the most was the pineapple, then the Pomegranate. I can’t say it’s been one of my fave so far, maybe because I’m not a big fan of Pomegranate. Other than that it was pretty good.

Green Smoothie Week – Peach Banana Spinach Smoothie

I was really excited to make my smoothie this morning. I have so many ideas and combinations that I want to try and the combinations are endless…literally!

For today’s smoothie I decided to go with peaches that I had in my freezer and a banana that was on it’s way out. I wanted to use it up before it got too ripe. For a little extra taste I added a heaping teaspoon of coco powder.

Ingredients:
1 handful of spinach
6 pieces of peach
1/2 banana
1 heaping teaspoon of coco powder
1 tablespoon wheat germ
1 cup almond milk

My trusty Magic Bullet does it again…

Thoughts…
I think I went a little too heavy on the cocoa powder, however, it was still pretty tasty. There was no bad after taste so that was a bonus. Next time I’ll use a little less coco powder.

Green Smoothie Week – Spinach Banana Avocado

Today’s green smoothie is a little out there, I’ve never had avocado in the smoothie before and I was interested to see how it would turn out. I’ve heard mixed reviews so I figured I’d give it a shot and see what all the talk is about.

Here are the ingredients:
1 handful of spinach
1 banana
1 wedge of a medium-sized avocado
1 tbsp wheat germ
2 tsp cinnamon
1 cup of Almond milk

Thoughts…

I like it…not as much as I liked the coconut from yesterday though. It’s really filling and I didn’t taste the Avocado at all, I wasn’t keen on drinking Avocado. The ingredient that stood out the most was the Cinnamon, which I didn’t so much.

Green Smoothies Week – Coconut Banana Green Smoothie

I really didn’t have time to shop or even come up with a meal plan this week. The weekend just flew by with little time to fit those things in.

I was speaking to a friend yesterday and I’ve decided I’m going to do a green smoothie challenge this week. The problem with me and green smoothies is that I get bored really quickly. So, for this week I’ll be trying out a different green smoothie concoction each day. This will give me some variety and keep me motivated.

Today’s recipe is a Coconut Banana Green Smoothie

Ingredients:
1 tbsp unsweetened coconut
1 tbsp wheat germ
1 handful of spinach
1/2 banana
1/2 apple

I have to say that I really like the tastes of this one, the coconut gives it a pleasant kick. I’ll definitely put this one in the books for future reference.

Weight Loss Update

This past week has been pretty good, I’m staying on my eating plan and doing really well with my water intake. My squat challenge was a little difficult for the first couple of days, my legs were hurting like crazy but now that the muscles have gotten used to it I’m good to go.

I managed to lose 1 pound this week, but my body fat percentage hasn’t changed that much, it’s at 37.8% grrrr. I’m going to have to start looking at other workout options that kits into my schedule. I’m really working hard to stay on track, I’m staying away from sugar as part of my goal plan this month. It’s not as hard as I thought it would be, I might even be able to get used to it! I’m also going to try to do the no salt thing just to see how far I can take this thing.

Wish me luck!
